So you have a killer idea huh? Whether you want to make a blog about your cat, a useful resource on fixing shoes or star wars fan fiction you can easily and cheaply make your own website. By cheaply I mean less than fifty bucks per year. Follow these simple steps and you’ll have your very own slice of the internet in no time.
I recently installed Wordpess on an older flat-file website that had a massive amount of seperate pages. The owner would occasionally shuffle his content around (manually archiving) and he’d never heard of a redirect. As soon as I started working on the project, I noticed all the 404 traffic he was getting (not caused by me!). Since I installed Wordpress for him, I was able to find a plugin to fix this situation. Enter Redirection.
Over the years I’ve concentrated my learning towards the visual markup, management and promotion of web sites. I’m happy with this arrangement. I have the tools and experience to create a website mockup image, and then turn that image into a functional static website. Years ago, this arrangement had a huge downside. When I took on a client who needed a site he could update himself, I had limited options.
